The Local Plan implements economic objectives through the provision of new land allocated for employment use and the protection of existing employment sites. The Council has historically taken these sites into account by keeping records of extant and new planning permissions on employment sites (over 1ha+) which are reviewed annually. These figures then count towards the Structure Plan’s indicative target for the district’s employment land requirement 1991-2011. Currently these statistics also inform the more detailed Annual Monitoring Report and Regional Monitoring for the South West.
